About this package

A good induction tells a new worker what can hurt them in this workplace, how the business controls it, what is expected of them and what to do when something goes wrong. Writing one from scratch takes time most small businesses do not have.

This package gives you a complete generic induction covering the common hazards, basic risk management and control management, reporting, duties, consultation, emergencies and fitness for work. Clearly marked placeholders show where to add your logo, business name, contacts, site rules, emergency procedures and policies, so the finished induction is yours.

Learning outcomes

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the duties of the business and of workers under WHS or OHS laws
  • Recognise the common hazards in the workplace and the controls in place for each
  • Explain basic risk management: find the hazard, assess the risk, control it and check the control is working
  • Explain the hierarchy of control, and that a control must change the risk and someone must be able to check it
  • Report hazards, incidents and near misses, and know why early reporting matters
  • Describe how workers are consulted, including through health and safety representatives and committees
  • Respond to an emergency using the site's procedures, alarms, routes and assembly area
  • Explain what fitness for work means, including fatigue, drugs and alcohol, and raising concerns
  • Find the site rules, policies and contacts that apply to them

Questions about this package

Is this a site-specific induction?

Not until you add your own details. It is a complete generic induction with clearly marked places for your logo, contacts, site rules, emergency procedures and policies. The customisation checklist makes sure nothing generic is left.

Is this the construction industry general induction (white card)?

No. That is a separate, regulated course. This is your own workplace induction, which new workers need in any industry.

Can we use it for contractors and visitors?

Yes, for contractors. The facilitator guide suggests a shorter version for short-term visitors who will be escorted.

Can we edit the documents?

Yes. Presentations, guides, workbooks and templates are supplied in editable formats so you can adapt them to your workplace. The copyright notice must stay.

Can we use the packages outside Australia?

Yes, with some editing. The induction is built to be customised, and the duties, reporting and consultation slides refer to Australian WHS and OHS laws. A business elsewhere should replace those with its own country's requirements, along with the company-specific details it fills in anyway.

Do participants get a certificate?

Yes. The induction includes an editable certificate template with a place for your logo, an attendance record (Word, plus an Excel register) and an optional 15-question multiple-choice assessment with an answer key, so you can record who was inducted and, if you choose, that they understood it. It is a certificate of completion issued by your business, not a nationally recognised qualification.

Can we deliver it face to face and online?

Yes. The packages are designed for face-to-face sessions and work over a video meeting platform. The facilitator guide notes where an activity needs adjusting for online delivery.

Can we run it more than once?

Yes, as many times as you like, for your own organisation's workers.

What is your refund policy?

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected. See the Refund Policy for how we handle a package that is faulty, not as described, or not what you ordered.

Do we get future updates?

You keep the version you bought for as long as you use it, and corrections to that version are made available to you. A new edition, for example following a significant change in the law, may be sold separately.
