Psychosocial Risk Leadership

For the people who shape how work is designed, allocated and checked every day.

  • AudienceSupervisors, team leaders and managers
  • Duration3–4 hours
  • CodePRRR-02
  • Version1.0 · 3.0 MB ZIP

About this package

Supervisors control more psychosocial exposure than any policy does. They set the pace of work, decide who does what, and are the first to see a control failing. This package builds that into everyday practice.

Leaders learn to recognise patterns of exposure in their teams, design preventative controls into the work, respond when concerns are raised, support recovery and check whether the controls are actually working. Realistic management scenarios run through the whole session.

Learning outcomes

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the work health and safety duties that apply to their role, and how they differ from an officer's
  • Explain why a leader's job is to manage the conditions of work, not to diagnose people
  • Sort the pressures in their team into what they control, what they influence and what they cannot change
  • Recognise patterns of exposure early, using information they already have
  • Consult their team in a way that changes something
  • Apply the PRRR™ Control Model to a real team situation
  • Develop preventative controls that change the work rather than the worker
  • Respond to a concern in a way that makes people willing to raise the next one
  • Escalate what they cannot fix, in writing, with facts and options
  • Support a safe return to work by controlling the work the person returns to
  • Check whether their controls are actually working, and act when they are not

Questions about this package

Do participants need to have done the Awareness package first?

It helps but is not required. The Leadership package introduces PRRR™ from the start.

Can we use our own scenarios?

Yes. The scenarios are editable and the facilitator guide explains how to write your own without losing the learning points.

Can we edit the documents?

Yes. Presentations, guides, workbooks and templates are supplied in editable formats so you can adapt them to your workplace. The copyright notice must stay.

Can we use the packages outside Australia?

Yes. The method (assess the work, control the risk, check the controls work) applies in any workplace and draws on ISO 45003, the international standard for psychological health and safety at work. The legal content refers to Australian work health and safety laws, so a business elsewhere should replace those slides with its own country's requirements. The materials are editable for exactly that.

Do participants get a certificate?

Yes. The four training packages each include an editable completion certificate template, plus an attendance register or training records spreadsheet, so you can keep proof of who completed the training for your WHS records. It is a certificate of completion issued by your business, not a nationally recognised qualification. The Implementation Toolkit is a set of workplace tools rather than a course, so it has no certificate.

Can we deliver it face to face and online?

Yes. The packages are designed for face-to-face sessions and work over a video meeting platform. The facilitator guide notes where an activity needs adjusting for online delivery.

Can we run it more than once?

Yes, as many times as you like, for your own organisation's workers.

What is your refund policy?

Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected. See the Refund Policy for how we handle a package that is faulty, not as described, or not what you ordered.

Do we get future updates?

You keep the version you bought for as long as you use it, and corrections to that version are made available to you. A new edition, for example following a significant change in the law, may be sold separately.
